Foreward to Upcoming Release of Escrima Simplified by SGM *D*
FOREWARD
The purpose of this book titled
“Escrima Simplified/ A Fundamental Guide For Self-Defense” is to present to the
reader a basic fundamental understanding about how one can apply simple
self-defense tactics in an easy, and in an effective way if ever physically
attacked. Regardless of your skill level, style, experience or previous
training in the pugilistic weapon or empty hand arts,
Grand Master *D* thoughtfully,
artfully and thoroughly guides you through this “beginner-to-expert” stick,
knife and empty hand instructional book.
By extracting the pure essence of
Filipino stick, knife and empty hand fighting , and combining it with his over
{35} years of martial arts training, and teaching experience, which includes
the arts of Kajukenbo, Tai Chi Chuan, Chinese Kempo, Thai Boxing, Western
Boxing, Kali, and the art of Serrada Escrima as personally taught to him by the
legendary stick/knife fighter 'Supreme Grand Master Guru' Angel Cabales, you
are presented with an eclectic, modern day approach that will give you the
decisive edge in the absolute art of streetwise self-defense.
Although knives and sticks are
featured within the contents of this book, your bare hands, or any items on
your person can be used in conjunction with the techniques presented and
taught.
Key rings, pencils, umbrellas,
rolled up newspapers, canes, pen knives, magazines, clippers, glasses, are all
applicable for integrating into this “Escrima Simplified” home study book.
Those who have actually had the rare
privilege of training under Grand Master *D* have personally discovered his
simple, but yet profound approach to self-defense. During his younger years,
Grand Master *D* engaged in numerous self-defense encounters, many of these skirmishes were just (kumite) or sparring matches,
others were actual life and death situations. The fact that he came out alive
in every self-defense encounter thus far, is a testimonial of the effectiveness
of his unique approach toward close-quarter combat.
Escrima Simplified/ A Fundamental
Guide For Self-Defense, is not strictly based
upon self-defense techniques alone, but also upon theories and concepts that
were thoroughly developed, and well refined down through the years by Grand
Master *D*himself. Having learned the rudimentary foundation stone of Filipino
martial arts directly from his teacher 'Supreme Grand Master Guru Angel
Cabales, Grand Master *D*was able to reshape many of his mentor's fighting
theories and concepts into a more simplified method of applicable self-defense.
In the opinion of Grand Master *D*,
enough Escrima can be learned in a very short period of time to give the
average person a solid, and efficient self-defense background. Escrima
techniques are extremely practical, but will extend only as far as one' mind
will allow.

you learn today, you can use today”

About the Author
THE INDOMITABLE SPIRIT
By SGM *D*
The primary reasons as to why I
became fanatically involved in the study of martial arts, is because of the
superior level of self-imposed discipline, and the flawless physical mastery
that can be obtained by the consistent practice of martial arts training. Down
through the years that I have been studying, and applying the
theosophical/scientific principles that underlies the different approaches to
martial arts,
I have consistently been able to
acquire more and more spiritual enlightenment, along with tranquility of mind.
To witness a highly skilled master martial artist in close-quarter combative
action, is to see physical poetry in motion. Martial arts is one of the most
effective ways to synchronize, or to yoke the mind, body, and the Spirit into
one harmonious workable whole. Whenever a true practitioner of martial arts can
successfully combine these three unique levels of the mind into one harmonious
unit, then one will have reached a superior state of mind known within Buddhist
circles as, “Nirvana” or enlightenment.
When the state of consciousness
known as “Nirvana” has effectively intertwined within the martial artist' total
being, the initiate has now become one with the 'Universe'. By extracting
certain fundamental universal principles from out of various seemingly different
religious systems, I have successfully been able to apply these identical
fundamental universal religious systems upon myself.
In turn, these universal effects
stimulated me to be able to raise my level of consciousness to an even more
sublime level of self-awareness.
Although an experienced, and a valid
martial arts expert is highly recommended to have in order to receive a
fundamental understanding about martial arts, it is not mandatory that an
initiate must obtain one in order to be effectively taught.
For in truth, the best master
teacher that an initiate can ever have, is oneself.
It is very possible for a person to
be his own teacher, and to be his own student simultaneously. There is a master
teacher that resides deep within each and everyone of us. How to awaken this
inner master teacher, and how to learn from this inner master teacher is partly
the sacred mission, and the golden goal of this book.
Excerpt from GM *D* upcoming book ***GM*D*'s Road To Boxing Excellence******
***GM D's ROAD TO BOXING EXCELLENCE***
(L-to-R) GM D & Master Boxing Trainer Jesse Lopez
Sr.
By age (17) GM D had come to the conclusion that his
leg-kicks had reached a level of strong proficiency; However! There were still some
weak points within his method of combat. What was lacking at that time period,
was a genuine understanding of how the fine art of Boxing could be synchronized
within the (D) Method of Self-Defense. During the early 1970's probably one of
the best kept secrets within the arena of Boxing was a mild & meek mannered
former Boxing Champion from Mexico City, by the name of Jesse Lopez Sr. Two of
Jesse Sr.'s younger brother's had already been training within the “(D) Method
of Self-Defense” for about one year, and had come a long ways in terms of a
more profound combative approach & understanding of how to utilize
effective
“Kick/Boxing”
One day both of the Lopez brother's came to one of
their regular classes with GM D, & they explained to the 'Grand Master'
that they would no longer be participating
in his 'Kick/Boxing' classes because their older
brother Jesse Lopez Sr. didn't see the
true value in learning any combat system outside of Boxing. The two brother's
further explained that the reason that their brother had come to this vital
conclusion, is because he had formally trained at “Grand Professor“ Al Reyes
Sr.'s 'Kajukenbo School of Martial Arts' and had almost killed one of the
'Black Belts' by hitting him too hard to the chest with an 'overhand-right-cross-punch'.
Flooring the 'Black Belt' instantly with one basic boxing blow, had proved to
Jesse Lopez Sr., that Boxing was far much more superior than any form of
“Karate or Gung Fu” style of fighting. At this point, GM D asked for a backyard
kumite (sparring) match pitting one of the brother's against him, with Jesse
Sr. present. Meeting Jesse Lopez Sr. for the first time, GM D found him to be a
very respectful gentleman, but also a little stoic & skeptical in terms of anything outside of Boxing.
As Jesse Sr. looked on, GM D, and Lopez' brother squared off for
combat, the look upon JL Sr.'s face was still riddled with skepticism; until
the sparring session ended quickly, with the younger Lopez brother lying on the
ground gasping for air. GM D had fired off a hard 'spinning back heel kick'
directly into his opponents solar plexus, which ended the match within seconds.
The only {KO} blow that was thrown on that particular day came in the opposite
direction by way of a well honed street fighter.
After the backyard sparring match had ended...GM D & JL Sr. became fast friends. As time progressed onward, JL Sr. & GM D began exchanging knowledge from their different prospective fields of combat methods. Because of the two fighter's intricate exchange of knowledge, both fighter's had gained a better understanding & insight from one another's respective combat arts.
Today! The two fighter's remain to be great friends,
and have both gone on to train excellent fighters from all over the world.
