"Mastering Eskrima Disarms" book review by Guro Michael Schwarz

It's been a couple of months since I'd received my autographed copy of the latest publication by GM Guro Dr. Mark Wiley.  Dr. Wiley has been a long time friend of co-founder GGM *D* for decades.  Mastering Eskrima Disarms as with all of Dr. Wiley's literary efforts is exquisite & chalked full of historical documentation in picture form of so many Eskrima Systems displayed by he & the system founders, Masters & Grandmasters.

As with all of Dr. Wiley's literary works, he explores the techniques from a foundational, fundamental level & moves forward to the finish. Too many times a author will delve far too much in theoretical methods as opposed to realistic methods that can work. Dr. Wiley is exceptional in word & demonstration.

Dr. Wiley has encompassed so many systems, from Cabales Serrada Escrima, D/C Serrada System of Escrima, Illustrisimo Kali, Bahala Na, Eskabo Daan, Doce Pares, Modern Arnis just to name a few.  Truly, one must read the work several times in order to appreciate the depth contained within the book.  I'm working on my 4th read & still finding refinement points that I had missed during the previous reads.  This book has so much information within it that I believe this will be counted among the most historical documentations of Filipino Martial Arts.  I commend Dr. Wiley on his continuing efforts to document the FMA with the dignity all the systems deserve.
